Hasler

Around approximately 12pm on Saturday a snowmobiler in our group triggered a small avalanche heading up a small slope with a 35-40 degree angle. The trigger point was as he crossed over the convex slope at the top of the hill. The terrain was on the leeward side of the hill approximately 10’ down from the top. In the photos you can see there is a weak layer approximately 1.5’ in depth. With this observation our group spoke and decided that we would stay away from hills today and play in fields, meadows. The riding was still great. Expect this problem to further worsen however as the wind was very strong in the Hasler area over 30km/h and there have been recent temperature swings of over 30 degrees. We took the time to stop at some shorter hills with similar angles and dig some small pits (including one stuck) the problem stuck out like a sore thumb on North/Northeast slopes today. Shooting cracks observed as well as a persistent slab approximately 30cm in depth sitting on top of surface hoar. The viewings from today match up very similarly to the reports posted in our region.
