Snowpack

Good skiing on a NE-facing slope between 9,500ft and 9,000ft. No avalanche concern encountered on this lap. 30-35cm of F to 4F soft snow above the Christmas rain crust. Making for soft powder skiing over a firm base. The crust was 10-15cm above the ground on a NE-facing slope, where, if you jumped on skis, you could deform the crust. On a north-facing slope, the crust was further off the ground with F+ facets below, where, if you jumped on skis, you could punch through. The crust was hard, with a thin ice lens embedded at these elevations. .
