Sastrugi in Black Prince Col

Pretty mediocre day out on Black Prince Col. The steep face leading up to the bench to Hero’s/Black Prince Col was nearly bullet proof in some areas and made for some pretty miserable touring. For the most part, ski penetration was <5 cm, often near zero. It was nearing the point of needing crampons and at least one person boot packed it today. No signs of instability but the whole area is pretty wind affected. Abandoned our attempt on Black Prince Col as there wasn’t anything but sastrugi up that direction. Snow near valley bottom was getting heavy and wet.
