Surface Hoar on the Burnt Knob

Large surface hoar down 30 cm is reactive, with low density snow above. We were able to trigger small pockets on steep rolls and avoided terrain traps where sluffing snow might accumulate into deep deposits. At the moment ski quality is great, but an increase in slab properties or added load from new snow may produce a spicy slab/weak layer combination.
