Weather
Temperatures were above freezing streams flowing along the side of the road. Skies were mostly clear until about 10:00 and then visibility rapidly decreased with 75% cloud cover.
Snowpack
I was only able to get into below treeline terrain for quick assessments on reactivity at the new/old snow interface. There is about 40 to 50 centimeters of fist hard new snow sitting on a 2 cm pencil hard crust. The new snow seemed to be bonding well at the interface with no propagating results. Small, loose wet avalanches was were beginning to release on south facing cutbanks with not enough volume to hit the road
Avalanche
A large natural avalanche observed on an east-facing slope near treeline. The crown averaged about six feet deep and was about 600 feet across, breaking into the basal depth hoar.
