Weather
6 to 8 inches of recent snow. The snow depth ranges from about 40 cm below treeline to 1 meter in drifted spots near treeline. Skies were clear today with light to moderate wind loading from the southwest at ridgetop.
Snowpack
Weak! Below treeline on north through east-facing slopes,6 inches of new snow rests on weak, cohesionless facets. East-facing near treeline is particularly bad with a thin crust sandwiched between two extremely weak faceted layers. Snow crystal size is between 2 and 4 mm. Easy to get numerous collapses and avalanches where the snowpack was deeper and slightly drifted near treeline.
