Three size 1 avalanches had recently released naturally on the NE ridge of Mt. Apps, around 1300m. All had occurred on small, unsupported convexities approximately NE in aspect, and all were within 50m in elevation of one another. Three other small convexities (these ones supported at the bottom) of similar aspect and elevation were tested by jumping near the top. No releases resulted. Two large whoomphs were also heard throughout the day. One in a flat, loosely-treed meadow, the other at the treeline above a short open slope.
