Snowpack

Very supportable snow surface on all aspects traveled and at all elevation in the late afternoon. Couldn't get any significant rollerballing even on steep easterly slopes that saw sun most of the day. The snow on steep slopes was re-freezing as the sun left them regardless of warm air temperatures.---I dug on a near-treeline northeast slope above an old March crown. The snow depth was 175 cm. Moist, rounding depth hoar still sits at the ground and a softer, weaker layer of facets sits about 30 cm under the slab that formed in March. Melt water only seemed to make it about halfway through the March slab from previous warm ups and not close to PWLs. Only the top 10 cms was affected by today's warm weather. The rest of the snowpack is moist, even the depth hoar, and isothermic.
