Grey day with cold temperatures and light winds. Low clouds hung over the summits, with intermittent light snow throughout the morning.

Snowpack

I dug on a northeast-facing slope at 11200' in one of the deepest areas I could find (40cm) and found 30cm of recent soft snow and facets above a layer of 10cm depth hoar. There was no evidence of a stiffer slab or wind-transported snow in this area. Once a slab forms on this setup, it will likey be easy to trigger small avalanches in steeper terrain. Looking around to higher, more wind-exposed terrain, there was still a lot of shrubbery showing and only minimal drifts below ridgelines.
