After two days of skiing BTL we ventured into Tree Line with Alpine features. No intentions of skiing open alpine features, but as imagined you always want to go take a look. We had great skiing in the trees after lunch we went for a walk to investigate some more complex terrain to see what it was up to...we needed not to look too hard. Check out the further reports.

This run is called ‘Fun Bowl’ but on this occasion the fun had been ripped out of it. We ventured around to see what was going on in this zone with the intention of skiing a slope on the other side of this bowl. As we approached you could see the crown in the shallow rocks and to our utter amazement looking back to see that it had propagated around the entire bowl and into the trees. We found a safe place to investigate the crown. This is clearly a very wind loaded slope as the 6cm’s that feel the evening before had been blown into about 20cm on the bed surface. The crown was exactly 100cm. HS 286 and the failure plane was at 186cm. 286 - 270 4F Df 1-2mm 270 - 200 1F Rg1-1.5mm 200 - 199 4F Fc .5-1mm 199 - 190 1F Rg/Fc .5-2mm 190 - 186 4F Fc 1-2mm Needless to say, we changed our plans for the remainder of the trip considering that the temperature was expected to rise overnight. Good skiing on the E slope back towards camp.
