Went out to check on the storm snow and get some turns at HBM in the ozone. With wind loading during the storm there were deep powder turns on this NE aspect. Probing with my pole in multiple locations measured an average snowpack depth of ~75cms. Ski penetration was about 30cms. There is a hollow space of a layer below the storm snow which would account for the constant whumpfing. Fantastic early season conditions on these mellow slopes. It is worth noting that I encountered an avalanche of movie crews motoring around the ski hill runs on snow rockets and snow cats. I inquired if they were filming in bounds only and they said they were planning to access the out of bounds on the chair side (Ozone) as well as hoping to film in the Crater Bowl (out of bounds Prairie side). The sled tracks stopped (today anyway) at the border of the ski hill and there were no tracks out of bounds. I did wonder though how the mountain goats (and Backcountry folks) will fair with this Zoo of Frozen WaterWorld Smokers motoring around for the next month. Money talks and mountain goats...walk?
