Conditions report

Location
Columbia Icefield

Widespread storm events through the Rockies have brought large quantities of wet snow from summit to VB after extended periods of drought. The rock was exceptionally dry and will have saturated deeply prior to freezing. Large rockfalls events have been witnessed, and should be expected as the deeply saturated moisture froze to valley bottom creating frost shattering. All overhead rock terrain should be treated with extreme respect. New snow should improve travel is some areas over the next few weeks. Wet loose avalanches will occur on unsupported terrain as we see rapid rises in temperatures over the next few days.
