Snowpack

Skied around the Turk and Sultan today and the snow surface was slow to warm in the alpine due to a light SW wind. Despite the breeze, BTL warmed significantly and a few medium sized WL slides were observed in lower Bear Creek.

Avalanche

Slightly to the east on Co Rd 2 things were a little more active. The most significant slide observed today occurred early in the day when a WL slide released at 13,200' on the SE face of Dome Mountain. As it descended it hit the NE aspect and triggered a much larger, dry snow slab at 12,400'. This looked to be about 400' wide and up to 2' deep. Then it was off to the races as it entrained both dry snow and saturated wet snow at lower elevations. (There is a good video out there of the powder cloud). The debris was deep and gouging. Cool Avalanche. Other notable WL slides occurred at the end of the road above Eureka on the north side and further west, low on the south side.
