Snowpack

Snow in gulch was 4-10" new on top of firm slab layer. Slope 25-35 degrees. No evidence of any long cracking or whomphing even when stomping on snow with ski. Slab sounded "hollow" at times but did not collapse and no cracking. No evidence of any recent avalanches. Gulch side slopes steep but little snow and no avy activity. Little snow above treeline in obvious avy basin. This would not be a good gulch to ski with snow in potential danger locations. Skiing was very good. Then skied over to NE ridge of Woods Mtn and found deep snow on face below treeline. Snowpack had no slab in woods but was deep (~70cm) with lots of sugar snow.
