Snowpack

Snowpack: 2” today on top of 2” last night. Storm board: 4” (.2” SWE) Last week’s storm snow (~1-3', 4” SWE) continues to settle without signs of recent wind transport, and showing no signs of instabilities for skier traffic or handshots. Airblasts continue to trigger soft slabs in isolated areas that were crossloaded early in the storm on various aspects, 10-20" deep, D1/1.5's. The thin facet layer below the Jan 29th rain crust is showing broken fractures in stability tests (on West aspects), but slab failures are consistently on PP/DF’s above the rain crust. A profile on W aspect below treeline showed concerning structure with Fist- large striated facets below the Jan 27th MFcr, but the layer was not continuous across the pit wall, probably due to explosive work. No propagating results. West aspects above treeline are mostly blown out up high, with the last ~6-8” of low density snow from the storm still in place above the Jan 29th rain crust. Lower on slope, storm snow depths reaching 2 ft or possibly more.
