Snowpack

Below tree line had a poor freeze, frequently punching through while skinning. Shallow snowpack, pain in the ass to bushwack through. Dug a pit at the base of grizzly coulior. NE aspect 34 degrees. Top 8 inches was a mix of crusts and 4 finger snow with about .5 inches of new snow on top. Below 8 inches was pencil/knife snow with no discernable layers, hard to get a snow saw through it. Did 2 cct. both failed at about 20 taps 8 inches down Q2. looked like a snow interface between the softer snow and the harder snow below. no failure lower in the column even with extensive beating. Didn't dig deep enough to see the depth hoar. Hopefully this dusting tonight will make for good skiing in the couloir tmw!
