Confirming conditions as reported by forecasters in Yoho region (go figure!). A day out on Mount Field with light-moderate winds at ridge-top, mostly cloudy conditions and below zero temps. Deep and supportive midpack from TL into Alpine made quick travel. At TL on shady aspects (aka all of mount field in January), surface snow is very dry and facetted which provided excellent ski quality. Approaching 2200m, surface snow becomes noticeably more slab-like (top 30cm) with significant spatial variability in wind effect; this was our major concern for the day assuming we're standing above a DPL at all aspects/elevations. However, we did not observe any reactivity in surface slab on approach or descent which included brief moments navigating steep, convex terrain. There was a group ahead of us that dug a pit before approaching this terrain and confirmed findings.
