Weather

cloud cover: scattered; wind loading: none

Snowpack

HS is less than 10 cm.  On northeast and northwest aspects ATL, the snowpack was mostly or entirely a supportive, pencil-hard crust. On due north, the crust is a bit softer and thinner (~1F+, ~3 to 5 cm), with dry facets below where snow depths allowed.  I didn't observe any facets above the crust, and it appears that this mid-October layer will act as a bedsurface more than a collapsible weak layer.  .

Avalanche

A few harmless wet loose avalanches ran sometime in the past week on high, north aspects of Purple Ridge.
