Weather
Mild night, with a low Temp of 44 F at 10,000’. Got 0.15” of rain on the 3rd, which kept snow surface ‘soft’. Even at 8 am. Some clouds around at 5 am, but nothing serious developing until about noon when towering cumulus began to develop, especially to the east, south & west. Heard first thunder a little before 1 o’clock off to the south so that’s when I started heading back to the barn. Lightning really started to ramp up along the Divide around 2.
Snowpack
Firm, but carve-able by 8 am. A veneer of dust/dirt and wind blown pine tree debris closer to the saddle, but cleaner with very small sun-cup development up higher. One of the best summer ski seasons I can remember, (though I can only remember back about 6 months most of the time).
Avalanche
No recent activity or sign of avalanches from the previous winter. Did not seem to be any threat of activity either. Well drained.
