Our group of three was traversing below blacksmith ridge on purple knob when the first skier in line was hit by a size 1 avalanche and knocked off their feet and carried about 2m down slope. They had debris up to their knees and had to dig themselves out, with assistance from a group member. We were the second group to pass under the wind pocket within 10 minutes, and the slide started up on the ridge and ran down to the skin track. We’re not sure if it’s a remote trigger or a badly timed natural from significant wind loading. The skier was not injured.
