Southerly aspects on Mt. Emmons: Snow profiles revealed an average HS of 75 cm although one profile in the RLG area showed a much deeper snowpack with the same persistent slab as seen on most NW-E aspects BTL. Previous storm snow has settled into a cohesive slab and is sitting on a series of facet/crust combinations. Repeatable CTM (SC) test results on a facet/crust combo down 30 cm--broke on 1.0 mm facets below the crust. An ECTP 10 (SC) also showed potential for propagation on this same buried facet layer. The surface form was a combination of surface facets and decomposing/fragmented grains all resting on a melt-freeze crust. Airtemps near freezing with a high of -2 at 11,000 ft. but the surface of the snow was becoming moist in the afternoon. Observed numerous collapses on SE aspects BTL--some were large and loud enough to shake the trees.
