Weather
quite warm for January. Reached 40 degrees at the Putney wx station today (12300). Winds were relatively calm.
Snowpack
Despite the warm temps, we did not feel the snow surface get moist but also we were not on southerly terrain. Skied a west aspect above TL and snow coverage was very limited. In the trees on the approach the snow varied from 100cm in the deepest spots to 10 cm. Generally in the 50cm range being unsupportive with half the snow old and faceted. There was a healthy layer of surface hoar low on the skin up. 2-4cm feathers were common but we did not observe any once we were in the near treeline and above treeline terrain. Something to look for in the next couple of days.
