Snowpack
Snow surfaces on southerly aspects near and below treeline are a 1-2 centimeter thick melt freeze crust with facets below. On sun protected slopes the surfaces are a variable wind crust/board that is also sitting on facets. The wind board is producing shooting cracks, whumpfing and easy, propagating Extended Column test results but the slab is not continuous enough to support threatening avalanches where I was. The persistent weak layer of buried surface facets d 50-75 centimeters below the surface is still obvious, stubborn and produces hard propagating ECT results ECTP28
