We skied into 5040 on Friday 16th and left on Monday 19th. Friday afternoon had very good corn snow on south and west aspects which then froze hard overnight. There was 110cm of snow depth on south west aspect near the hut. No result could be achieved in a compression test. There was a layer about 15cm down which failed when pulled from behind with a shovel. There was also a layer of weak snow at the bottom of the pit. On Saturday we saw 3 avalanche crowns on steep north aspects. Around size 1. These probably slid during Friday's warm spell. Skiing was crusty on north aspects and hard ice on anywhere else, although it did soften slightly by the afternoon. Sunday - in the morning we skied sheltered north aspects which skied well. By the afternoon nothing was softening due to the cold. The ski and bootpack out to the logging road on Monday was solid ice.
