Bluebird day, superficial freeze overnight.

At 10:50 am today, a wet slab avalanche started 100 yards to the side of where I was skiing a southerly open shot off the East Ridge of Star Peak in the La Platas. The slide was about 200’ wide and ran about 1500’ to the bottom of the runout zone. About 75% of the way down the slide stepped down to the ground in a convexity. This is earlier in the day than we expected for a wet slab. Overnight freeze was superficial. Not sure if this was a sympathetic release or spontaneous. Slide began near the top of the slope near exposed rocks, in a slightly steeper slope angle (high 30s) area. No one was caught, and there were no injuries.
