Snowpack
Roughly 4” of snow fell on Red Mountain Pass in our most recent storm. The new snow fell on a variety of surfaces: crusts on sunny slopes, loose facets on shady slopes and hard, wind affected snow above treeline. The new snow did not add significant load to the existing snowpack and did not do a whole lot to change the avalanche situation. We did find some drifts up to 6” deep above treeline, but these were localized and not particularly concerning. Loose dry slides remain the biggest concern at this time. We were able to initiate small slides from steep northerly terrain below treeline.
