Limited snow around Montogomery Bowl made for difficult travel conditions. The only places with more than four inches of snow are directly below ridgelines on leeward slopes. Here, the snow depth can be up to two feet but quickly thin out to about four inches. I targeted this deeper spot and found a stiff (1 Finger on the Hand Hardness scale) slap resting on top of last weekend’s snow down about 10cm. This propagated easily on Extentend Column Tests (ECTP5,7 @57cm). The basal layer in this pit showed a little bit of early October snow, which has started to facet but is capped by a thin melt-freeze crust. October 28-29, snow will likely become our persistent weak layer as it continues to facet. We will be paying close attention to this when the subsequent storms come
