Snowpack
The snowpack on the westside of Independence Pass is shallow. The deepest areas exist on north-facing slopes above treeline. In these locations there is likely old snow from early October that was on the ground prior to the storm series at the end of October. However, even in these locations the snow cover is thin. The East and West Roaring Fork Avalanche Areas that face West and East have non-existent or pathcy snow. There is not enough snow left from the late October storm series to form a continuous weak layer at those locations.
