Snowpack

Today, I traveled on all aspects near and below treeline. Recent cold nights and warm days have faceted the entire snowpack in areas where the pack is around or under 50 cm. Even on slopes where you could identify old, weaker snow near the ground, the surface slab is so soft that snowpack tests did not produce results. Coverage has dramatically increased over the past week. The snow that is out there is weak. It won't take much of a new load for avalanches at all elevations, and size will increase with elevation.
