Weather

Partly cloudy to start, with limited snow showers in the afternoon.

Snowpack

The snowpack below treeline is shallow and weak. The bottom half of the snowpack has well-developed facets and depth hoar, and the upper half is decomposing fragments from the most recent snow. A small change in hard-hardness at the new and old interface is enough to produce very easy (ECTP4) failures in snowpack tests below treeline on an east slope. A crust was observed in the middle of the snowpack at the new old interface on sunny and even low-elevation east slopes, below around 10,000 feet.
