Phenomenal skiing between 1500 and 1250m in old growth trees; deep un consolidated powder. Storm totals about 40cm, snowed all day, temps around -5c at 1500m, winds gusting hard in open areas and above 1500m. Skiied one short run from 1600m down but wind slabs and reactive storm slabs were evident so we backed off and headed back to the trees. Snow was un consolidated but starting to slab later in the day in open areas. Go get it, it’s D33p out there, Monday should be good!
Avalanche
Saw some evidence of a natural size 1 storm slab on a convexity, skiier cautiously approached and weighted convexity, 40cm slab released on faceted hard snow: 5m propagation, 20m run out, size 1.5. Only sign of instability all day.
