Snowpack

We observed quite a diversity of snow conditions on the tour. As the day warmed the valley snow and solar aspects below treeline got wet. The north/NE facing gully we rode (approximately between 10,500" and 11,500") stayed cold and had a mix bag of decomposing snow, some facets, small, shallow soft slabs (2-5 inches deep) and some larger hard slabs that were firm enough to support three skiers' weights without anyone breaking through. We did not probe these hard slabs to look at depth. Coverage was shallow in places and we all hit a few rocks on the way down. There was visible windloading occurring above treeline all day.
