Weather

Weather: Skies were mostly overcast. Winds increased through the day from the teens to 40 mph, with gusts reaching 60’s and 70’s this afternoon. No precip. Temps were steady near 25F at ridgetop and rose to 37F at the 10,000 ft.

Snowpack

Surface is a wide mix. Refrozen wet grains at lower elevations and steeper SE to SW slopes. Higher more shaded elevations hold firm windboard, textured sastrugi, or were scoured to previous crusts. No signs of windslab formation, mostly blown out or shallow windpressed snow. Not much snow available for transport, but some small plumes off of high peaks this afternoon. Profile on SW aspect near treeline showed an isothermal snowpack at 0ºC and moist grains throughout (except for near the surface). No freewater moving through the snowpack. Rounding facet layers lower and mudpack, nothing too alarming.
