This observation is regarding the Jan. 5 rain crust. The rain crust was present throughout this area. At the Jones Pass/Butler trailhead, at about 10,500, the rain crust was 7 to 10 mm thick in open areas. The crust was less noticeable in the trees, but still present to some extent. I went as high as 11,800 on N to NW facing slopes, and the crust was present there as well, about 2 to 3 mm thick.
