Near and just above treeline, northwest winds on Wednesday drifted snow from the last two storms into soft slabs. The deepest drifts and most significant loading occurred below ridge tops on easterly aspects above treeline. At treeline, these new soft slabs existed in smaller pockets interspersed with older hard slabs from the New Year's wind event. In areas that we traveled, these new wind slabs varied in thickness from about 5-20 cm. No shooting cracks or collapses were observed in newly drifted areas.
