Deep powder skiing at Fraser Chutes, and very deep trail breaking especially lower down in the trees. About 30 cm of new snow since Friday night, Fraser is buried! It can be a challenge to find enough pitch to ski but also to feel safe with all this new snow. Below treeline the snow is bottomless and some holes to watch for on the way up. It sits on a crust as described in the pit results presented yesterday. Near treeline the new snow sits on a harder windslab likely from south winds earlier this week. Lots of whumping on exposed ridges along each gullies (shallow areas), but otherwise snow felt good and no signs of soft slabs. The cold hadn't arrive by 4PM and neither the north winds. When the strong north (outflow) winds will arrive some time Sunday/Monday I expect stability to become dicey with soft slab likely forming quickly with all that snow available for transport. Consider this report has representative of conditions only until the wind picks up (likely sometime tomorrow).
