At the top of chimney Chutes we skied down about 50 feet staying out of the chute in a safe high area in order to dig a snow pit to better assess the snowpack at the angle we’d be riding on. While skiing down a slope cut was made to better test the stability prior to digging the snowpit. At this point about a 12†deep 20’ wide slab broke sliding down the chute. We worked our way down through the chute after the slide. We put our beacons into search mode to double check nobody was below the chute. We picked up no signals.We were the only tracks and vehicle in the first creek parking lot.
