Weather
Calm and clear with a 12 degree temperature inversion this morning at 0800 (Placita was -4F and the summit of McClure was 8F). After the cool start the temperature warmed rapidly to the mid twenties as I left the pass.
Snowpack
The warmer weather last week has consolidated the mid pack with strong layers composed of rounded grains. The surface snow and near surface snow has faceted with some affect from solar input on the northeast-facing slope above Bears Gulch. The weak snow at the base of the snowpack persists and signs of rounding from the last site visit in a deeper location were not as pronounced here where the snowpack was still just 130cms deep. Repeatable hard sudden results on the depth hoar down around 85cms in small column tests.
