Blue skies. 18 ish degrees while riding. Lowes in single digits over night.

Snowpack

Hard snowpack base plus 1-3’ of softer snow (Champaign powder). Top layer just starting to set up from sun.

Avalanche

Triggered a small avalanche start as I was cutting across the upper face of a northern slope. Looked to me (couple classes of avalanche awareness level) like there’s a layer of surface hoar on top of that hard base layer 1-3’ (depending on wind load location on northern slopes) below the surface.
