Snowpack

The majority of the snowpack near and below treeline is a mixture of a facet and crust combination, with 5-7 mm depth hoar making up 60% of the snowpack in Turkey Foot (west, below treeline). Lingering remnants of wind slabs can be found but are beginning to feel punchy under skis. The volume and connectivity will limit the size of avalanches with a large storm but sensitivity will be reactive/touchy with a new load. Surface conditions are weak and the structure will allow for avalanches to step into the persistent weak layers below.
