It was a balmy, warm spring day with light to moderate winds out of the west.
Snowpack
I mainly found only slightly moist snow on a northeast-facing slope that made for really good snowballs, but no liquid water was moving through the snowpack. I will caveat this by that I dug in a wind-drifted slope, yet even so, I didn’t find a plethora of crusts here. Conversely, just around the corner on a southeast-facing slope, by 11:45 am, I was getting full-on boot top penetration, and after digging into the hill a bit, I sunk to the ground. The snowpack was wet here, with plenty of different melt-feeze crusts throughout the pit. While the snow near the ground was relatively soft (4 Finger Hard), the snow grains were all mostly rounded.
