We had an incredible two days skiing Jumbo Pass on Tuesday and Wednesday. We arrived on Wednesday to 35cm of fresh snow. Skied a couple of laps east of the cabin to test things out and only saw very small storm slabs 30cm deep and less than 3m wide. The upper snowpack was all F- with no wind affect at TL. It snowed another 15cm overnight on Tuesday. On Wednesday morning we dug a quick pit at 2350m, E asp. HS was 170cm in a slightly wind loaded location. Had CTE4 down 30cm and CTM14 down 50cm, both on storm interfaces. No ECTP results and no surface hoar visible. We skied multiple laps on the east side below the cabin on Wednesday and saw no reactivity in the morning. Sluffing was minimal even on slopes steeper than 40 degrees. Winds had been light for the whole trip but on Wednesday afternoon they increased to moderate northerlies. There was light blowing snow around 3pm when we left the cabin. It also snowed around 10cm throughout the day bringing the storm total to around 60cm. We triggered a size 1 storm slab on our way down from the cabin. This was on a 40 degree convexity, E asp, 2300m. We could feel a tiny amount of wind affect on the snow surface here. Overall we couldn’t have asked for better conditions over the two days. We’ll be back once the temps increase!
