Weather

Skies started partly cloudy. Cumulus started popping up before noon, and by early afternoon snow squalls were rolling over. Bursts of heavy snow, but little accumulation.

Snowpack

All aspects below 10,000' feet had a stout, supportable melt-freeze crust under the recent snow.
Recent snow accumulations increased as we traveled west-ward, from about 20 cm in the Aspen Zone to almost 40 cm in the eastern Grand Masa zone.
In parks and saddles, recent westerly winds had drifted small amounts of snow into isolated, soft wind slabs.
Snow cover limited below about 8500 feet and on steep south facing terrain.
