Snowpack
Toured in the flattop area In RMNP 5/21. Substantial new snow over the past few days was morphed down into 12-18" total with 3-4" of dense powder on top of various slush layers. Especially on east and southerly aspects this felt ready to slide on any slope steep enough. We were turned around at treelike by denser slabs forming on top of the slush that collapsed while penetrating. We suspected that above treelike northerly aspects would be more frozen and solid but didn't get there. Was good skiing but we were nervy so stayed low angle and exited. met at least one other party at the parking lot that abandoned objectives based on a similar assessment.
