Snowpack

Snowpack in this area still shallow and weak. Snowpack depths varied from 25 cm at the trailhead to 70 cm at higher elevations in wind drifted areas. Average HS about 50 cm. Snowpack on shady northwest, north, and northeast aspects consisted on surface hoar on top of the snowpack and facets and depth hoar below that. With no slab present in the snowpack on these aspects, little avalanche danger observed in this area. Ski cuts on short, steep test slopes produced only D1 loose snow avalanches consisting of surface facets and decomposing storm snow. They were small and moved slowly.
