Snowpack
Mild weather continued to help settle the snowpack. No wind-loading was observed today. Strong solar input was felt on W and S slopes. Crust will develop overnight with cold temps. Widespread surface-hoar and Near-surface facets were observed on the snows surface. This 1/28 layer will be something to monitor for the next loading event. Strong N winds on 1/27-1/28 created HS on exposed ridges and on leeward slopes. Cross-loaded features right at treeline created the most natural activity during this past storm. No Cracking or collapsing was observed below treeline. Across the valley on S facing slopes a few Loose Dry avalanches were triggered, but most seem to go 1/28.
Avalanche
A few loose Dry avalanche were observed on South facing slopes above treeline. It is hard to say, but it did look like a group remote triggered an avalanche on a SE facing slopes Near treeline on the ski from Telluride to Ophir.
