Snowpack

The north aspects below treeline at 9000 feet were wet and isothermal by 10:30 am. Near treeline, due north aspects remained dry on the surface, but with any tilt to the east or west, the surface snow was wet. A snow pit near treeline on a northeast aspect showed an easy failure below last weeks storm snow where there is a visible dust interface. Buried surface hoar layers were noted in the snow pit, but did not fail with any tests. A dust covered snow surface and melt-freeze crust on southerly aspects remained firm at noon with mostly cloudy skies near treeline. Below treeline southerly slopes are mostly bare ground.
