We dug a pit on a NW facing slope in the lower canyon to skiers left of birds beak. Pitch was about 30 degrees. We did a compression test in the pit we dug. The top layer was a storm slab, about 15 inches of snow from the latest storm and it broke free and slid on the ice layer while we were cutting the back of the column. (CTV, q1) The lower deep persistent layer broke after 3 taps from the wrist and went all the way down to a layer of about 6 cm of faceted snow. (ct3, q1) Lots of whumping was observed as well.
