Weather

Snow overnight. 6-10" fresh snow collected in the couloir. Partial sun.

Snowpack

North facing at the base of the Spider Face on the Sultan. 11600' Hard bed surface dirt layer with fresh snow on top. The fracture was probably a soft slab just below rocks

Avalanche

The narrowest part of the lower couloir had slid to the dirt layer. Just when it ended and the apron began I slowed down and pulled to the side to catch my breath. I saw the crack and turned right back on tho the bed surface. A pocket pulled out as a 2-3 foot crown about 100' across. It ran maybe 400 feet down the apron and came to a stop. I observed it while standing on hard dirty snow off to the side of but just below the crown.
