Snowpack
The snowpack is now deep enough that a cold, dry January will drive kinetic metamorphism of the existing snowpack weakening it to where a storm of 24" will likely cause failure and avalanches across the highway on both north & south sides. Basal layer is an ice mass with a midpack of soft mixed grains with a melt-freeze crust with near surface facets above. Surface layer of the most recent storm new snow
